Sustainability is key
Sustainability is a key focus for the event. The organizing club, Hadsel Underwater Club, has partnered with local stakeholders to ensure that no fish remains are wasted or discarded into the sea.
– We and the Norwegian Diving Federation are committed to utilizing the entire fish, and ensuring that nothing goes to waste is a top priority, says the organizer.

During the weekend, a local chef will transform some of the catch into a banquet on Saturday. The chef is eager to work with fresh ingredients and has a strong commitment to sustainability.
– The chef will not only use every part possible of the fish but he has also begged us to give him the fish heads so he can make fish stock out of it.
Any inedible discards will be delivered to Lerøy Seafood, a leading seafood company with a history dating back to 1899. Lerøy processes fresh fish from the local fishing industry year-round at their facility in Melbu, close to the competition area.
– We have an agreement with Lerøy Seafood to handle all the waste we can't use for food, to ensure it's processed properly, says the club.
– This helps us avoid dumping it at sea which is something we want to at avoid at all circumstances, the club concludes.
